Hello again there everyone!!
We have a little big of a groove going! It’s feeling good compared to the craziness of the rest of life taking over! I’m so thankful for my little pack and the outlet of creativity that this space allows me!
We’re journeying today to the land of Colombia for a movie that always makes me ugly cry: Encanto.
There are just so many lessons to be learned in this movie from all the characters.
Maribel teaches us that you can be ordinary and still do extraordinary things.
Luisa teaches us that you don’t have to hold the weight of the world silently.
Isabela teaches us that there’s beauty in imperfections.
All totally valid and amazing lessons to learn. I think more than anything else, what truly gets me is that this family is outwardly incredibly tightknit. Abuela has this overarching authority though and it’s almost as if because she was there when the miracle was bestowed upon the Madrigals, she is never truly challenged in that authority.
It’s my experience, so I’m sure others can also relate, that the outward projection we try to show the world is that of a perfect family; no cracks. But that façade ends up hurting those creating the projection.
When the casita inevitably breaks, the family is able to reconcile and still love each other for who they are, abilities or not. Their kindness to their community also doesn’t go without a return of an outpouring of support. This is truly a fairytale ending for a family dealing with passed down trauma. It is my hope that anyone experiencing this themselves reaches their own happy ending for that situation.
And while we’re at it, let’s continue to not talk about Bruno, kay?
