Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut, optional for topping

Steps

1

In a large saucepan over medium heat, mix milk, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

2

In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in a little extra milk until smooth. Slowly add this mixture to the milk, stirring constantly.

3

Lower the heat to a simmer and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens. Add butter and continue cooking for 10-15 minutes until it reaches a custard-like consistency.

4

Pour into either a large, greased dish or small greased ramekins and let cool. Refrigerate until firm.

5

Garnish with coconut and additional sprinkle of cinnamon. Serve cold.
